The Priority of Prayer

The Priority of Prayer

And so the story began, “Once upon a time there was a beautiful princess. What was her name?”

My granddaughter Emma sang out, “Emmmmaaaaa!”

I continued, “And she was . . . how old was she?”

The little princess giggled, “Thrreeeeee.”

I continued, “And this beautiful princess went on a long journey. Where did she go?”

Without hesitation Emma responded, “Prayer and then ballet.” After my heart melted, I adopted a prayer inspiration that she daily, forever seek to dance deep within the heart of God.

Jeremiah had not yet scored for his basketball team of seven-year-olds. Then after attending a Saturday morning prayer service, he made three baskets. It doesn’t mean that if he prays first, he’ll become a basketball star, but he’s learning that those who seek God and His wisdom will shine like the brightness of the firmament, and those leading many to righteousness will shine like the stars forever (Daniel 12:3).

World-changing prayer is God’s desire for us and can be as natural as breathing. Simply ask God to surround your family with God-honoring, passionate worshipers who fervently live and pray for the fulfillment of the Great Commission. He will.

It’s not only important that our children attend church, but just as important that they attend prayer gatherings, as that’s where the presence and power of God are centered.

It’s also helpful to pray with them and for them, and to help them build a strategy for prayer without ceasing to ensure that no matter where they are or whatever their circumstances, they know where their help comes from, and that God is there with them always. It’s important for them to recognize that they can use their God-assigned authority to stand firm in the things you’ve taught them, to help lead their friends and others to righteousness, and to change the world through prayer.

how we long for our children to dance in Your Heart,

every step they take, moving deeper

into Your presence and will for their lives.

Please grant them, please grant our family

a passion for world-changing prayer

and a longing to make You famous.

Surround us with intercessors for individuals and nations.

Please, make my home a house of prayer for all nations.

In the beautiful and wonderful name of Jesus, we pray…

Rejoice evermore.

Pray without ceasing.
