Praying for Purity

Praying for Purity

Connie Norris Prayers and Promises

Some of the most celebrated memories in life can be made while addressing serious topics.  How can we guard and guide our children through a culture that seemingly grows darker with each passing day?

Giving babies a toy lamb is a cuddly way to identify with the gentleness of God.  When they rise up and when they lie down, pray with them,

Father, help us to hear Your Voice clearly

and follow You daily.

As you put on their shoes, pray with them,

Father, teach us Your way so that we may walk in Your Truth.

At elementary age, purchase symbols of purity that reflect their interests.  My youngest loves her snowflake necklace.  A white Frisbee, baseball, soccer ball – suggest it continually remind them that they’re called to lead others as an example in speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity.  (1 Timothy 4:12)

Before they start dating or a courtship, present them with a ring.  Make it a special event, spending time to define boundaries that will honor God and their future spouse.  Help them to recognize that even as teens, their decisions have lifelong consequences.

As you walk by the way:

When my youngest was enticed by popular trends, we read the New Testament, Psalms, and Proverbs together, highlighting words regarding purity and holiness.  She then went through our entertainment cabinet getting rid of any movie that used God’s Name irreverently, mocked Christians, or had any form of sexual content.  She tossed out movies I enjoyed, but by biblically defined standards, they were unacceptable.  Whenever she took the lead, I proudly followed.

Magazines in checkout lines generally contain graphic content.  Seize every opportunity to discuss the “fruit” of a person’s life, pointing out relational heartaches and addictions.  Ask questions, and move your children to consider the “fruit” of those in their school, church, and community.  Do they want to lead or be led?  Do they want to be as Tim Tebow or —?
