Don't forget to make some memories!

Popcorn, Prayer, and Passion

Popcorn, Prayer, and Passion

There are prayers that I believe God is sitting at the edge of His Throne, just waiting to answer if only we pray…

Father, give us passion for You and Your Word…

Since prayer is both speaking to God and listening to God, reading His Word aloud punches holes in the heavenlies, hurls down spiritual strongholds, and transforms human hearts. It provides the power that shields us from temptation in every summer of life. It’s the truth protecting us from false doctrines and from becoming false prophets.

Create special memories – popping popcorn, drinking hot chocolate, crawling under a cozy blanket with the kids to read the Bible together. After reading each chapter, write a family prayer from any content that lends itself to this activity.

Move us to follow wherever You lead.

Even as the wind and waves obey You,

may we respond at the mere whisper of Your Name.

(Matthew 8: 27)

Store these prayers in a chest, bringing them out frequently, thanking God for his faithful response to each request.

Encourage all to write in their Bibles, highlighting verses that inspire them. These will be treasured in the years to come. Have them write verses on attractive paper and post them throughout your home on mirrors, the refrigerator door, near computer screens…

With younger children, read through the New Testament.

If older, read through the entire Bible with them yearly. Melissa-Ann and I read chronologically, studying various topics. What does the Bible say about prayer? Holiness? The End Times? The Holy Spirit will guide and teach. I was nervous the first time Melissa Ann and I read Revelation, afraid it would alarm her, until she pointed out the blessing in the introduction, “Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near.” (Revelation 1:3 NKJV)

Instead of reading three chapters, read at least thirty minutes – or longer. Continuing to read when interest is strong will enhance understanding.

Always begin prayerfully,

Father, we call to You knowing that You will answer us,

showing us great and wonderful things that we do not know.

(Jeremiah 33:3)

“Your word I have hidden in my heart,

That I might not sin against You.”

Psalm 119:11 NKJV

“Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them;

for of such is the kingdom of heaven.”

Matthew 19:14 NKJV
