Personal Resolutions or Global Revolution?

Personal Resolutions or Global Revolution?

This year when watching fireworks, may they inspire us to pray, setting our hearts to establish strategic resolutions that will ignite a personal and global revolution—for ourselves (especially as parents) and for our families. The following prayer is copied onto the front page of my new calendar.

Father, please grant us

a passion for You, Your Word, Your Will, Your Wisdom, Your World,

and holiness.

A passion for You

Whenever drinking a glass of water, may we be prompted to pray,

As a thirsty deer pants for water,

so may our family and multitudes throughout the world

so desperately desire You, O God (Ps. 42:1).

Let’s pray and ask God to give us a passion for Him. A home with a mom and dad who follow after Jesus is a home that’s going in the best possible direction. So what kind of passions do we need spiritually?

A passion for Your Word

Reading the Bible is one of the highest forms of spiritual warfare and one of the most powerful forces we have as parents. Jesus used three verses from the book of Deuteronomy to deal a crushing blow to the devil when facing His testing in the wilderness. He simply said, “It is written…” (Matt. 4:1-11, Luke 4:1-13).

Moms and dads, here are some resources to help you as the spiritual examples for your family: The YouVersion Bible is a great online tool with many study plans, and you can even listen while putting on makeup, driving to work, cleaning house, etc. My website, “My Home, a House of Prayer for All Nations offers topical study strategies and charts you may download. Father, ignite a passionate passion

within the hearts of people throughout the earth,

a desperation to understand Your Word.

A passion for Your will

Some days, many days, life doesn’t go as planned. When unexpected events or circumstances bring frustration or even fear, when we feel helpless as parents, we can remember our Lord’s example,

Thy Kingdom come. Thy Will be done on earth,

here in our hearts, here in our homes, here in our agendas,

as it is in Heaven (Matt. 6:10).

A passion for Your wisdom

Father, may our hearts and minds remain vigilant and diligent

to call to You with eager expectation that You will answer us,

showing us great and mighty things that we do not know (Jer. 33:3).

A passion for Your world

There are so many needs all around us and throughout the earth, and our children will learn compassion by watching us.

Jesus, grant us compassionate hearts,

longing to be Your hands and feet to a world

where people are hurting, hungry for food,

and hungry for truth and Your presence.

Please show us where we may strategically invest our time,

and our financial and material resources that we might make the greatest impact

in advancing Your Kingdom.

A passion for holiness

Without it, we cannot see God (Heb. 12:14). It’s the human ingredient necessary for effective prayer and ministry – and a wonderful topic for a New Testament Bible study.  Highlight what you learn with your favorite pen while praying, and then ask God to help you share those truths with your children.

Father, help me to be all that You designed

and delight for me to be.

You are the Potter. I am Your clay.

Please mold me into a vessel that You can use

to lead vast multitudes to You.

In the holy and wonderful Name of Jesus.
