Don't forget to make some memories!

Let’s Have a Picnic!

Let’s Have a Picnic!

Let’s have a picnic! Picnics are such a fun thing to do with children. If you are looking for a budget-friendly activity, have a picnic. You are going to feed the children anyway, so make it fun.

You can have picnics in the backyard, on the floor in the house when the weather doesn’t permit it outdoors, or you can go to the local park.  A picnic can be as creative as you want by having a theme like reading books, a safari theme pretending to be animals, playing games, and it can go on and on. Get the children involved in choosing the theme and the menu—and don’t forget to keep the food fun.

I have some fun food ideas to share with you today using very simple ingredients. I’m sharing a recipe for peanut-butter-and-jelly fruit kabobs, but you can make these using your family’s favorite sandwich or fruit.

I also have a children-friendly snack mix. Or make your own, by using different ingredients that are popular in your home.

When my children were young we had lots of picnics and they still talk about them.  So grab the picnic basket or lunch box, get the children involved and make some picnic memories—and remember to always celebrate the family table!

PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY FRUIT KABOBS

Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches

Fruit such as grapes, bananas, strawberries

Wooden skewers (you can find some really fun ones at the discount store or party supply store)

Prepare the sandwiches, remove the crust and cut them in small squares. Wash and prepare the fruit you are using.  Place these ingredients on the wooden skewers, alternating sandwich squares and fruit.

SNACK MIX

2 cups oat circle cereal

1 cup graham cracker bears

1 cup honey roasted peanuts

2 cups candy coated candy (I used milk chocolate and the pretzel filled)

1 cup raisins

Mix together and store in a large zipper bag or airtight container.
