Don't forget to make some memories!

Just 18 New Years

Just 18 New Years

A quick look at the world reveals that Christ has been swept aside along with the trimmings that once celebrated His first coming, replaced by resolutions to pay off Christmas debt, lose Christmas weight, read self-improvement books while Bibles are being stripped from the shelves. We have just 18 New Years to train our children to cling to Christ as the focus of their lives every day of every year.

Last year we made an Advent wreath to keep at the center of our dining table throughout the year. It’s where we do our Bible study every morning. It’s a visual reminder that Christ came to mark the moments of HIStory – not only a new era for humanity, but also a new beginning for everyone who chooses to accept Him into their hearts. It’s a reminder of our resolution to pray daily that people throughout the world would awaken to His wonder.

It’s a reminder that when circumstances press in or nations begin to crumble, He is coming again. It’s a reminder that The Eternal Government will rest upon His Shoulders and that His Name remains Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace.

Norris (2) 1-2-15The candles continue to remind us that He is the Light of the world; when our families follow Him, we do not walk in darkness (John 18:12). They remind us that we are to radiate His Light, letting others see our good works so that God’s fame spreads and He is honored (Matt. 5:14-16). As the candles burn down, we will replace them and light them and daily pray,

Please shine Your holy Light into the hearts of my children.
Grant us hearts ablaze with passion
for You, Your Word, Your Will, and holiness.

The straw will remind us of our Resolution to pray,

Father, all things will someday burn away,
so help us to live holy lives that honor You,
leading multitudes into Your Love (1 Cor. 3:13, Daniel 12:3).

The Baby will remind us of our children’s potential to change the world,

Father, help us to recognize the gifts You’ve planted within them.
Help us to nurture them faithfully
and guard them diligently
so that they become everything You designed and desire them to be.
