Inspire Your Heart with Art Day

Welcome to Smarts-n-crafts, where you’ll find smart activities to do with your children—no matter what age—and fun craft projects for rainy days or just for giggles. You’ll be provided with step-by-step instructions, a variety of use ideas, approximate time of activity, and an age-tested skill level. Let’s get started! We’ve got just 18 summers to create lots of memories with our loved ones.

January 31st is Inspire Your Heart with Art Day! In celebration, we’ll encourage our young artists to create a piece of artwork with a celebratory feel to it.

What you’ll need:

  • A variety of cupcake/muffin liners (tin, colors, decorations, sizes, etc.)
  • Craft glue
  • Child-safe scissors
  • Black construction paper (will act as the sky)

Skill level:

Little Helping Hands, ages 2-5: Smaller hands will enjoy shopping for a few different cartons of liners. If old enough, they can cut the edges of the liner. They can also help glue the firework liners onto the construction paper and display it proudly on the refrigerator.

I’d Rather Do It Myself, ages 6+: Older children will enjoy shopping for the various liners, cutting the edges, and gluing them onto the construction paper.

20 minutes

  • Take the various liners and snip along the edges until you reach the bottom of the liner to form a “fringe” around the bottom of the liner. (See picture.)
  • Glue the fireworks liners on the construction paper to create a spectacular display!

Dig Deeper:

Read: Genesis 1:1 ESV says, “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” (Emphasis mine)

Share: Genesis says that God created the heavens and the earth.

Ask: What are some of your favorite things God has created?

Ask: Do you see yourself as an artist?

Share: Genesis 1:27 says we were created in the image of God. He is creative, so we can know that He made us creative, too—just in different ways! Some people paint, others mold clay into objects, and others write. There are many ways we can be creative. And when we share our art (whatever that is!) with others, we spark inspiration in their hearts.

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. Genesis 1:27 ESV

Share: Today, let’s create a Firework Display. When we’re finished, we’ll put it on the refrigerator to remind us that our creativity is a gift from God—and this is worth celebrating!
