Don't forget to make some memories!

Don’t Stop Them!

Don’t Stop Them!

There are prayers we can pray and actions we can take to save our children and ourselves a lot of mistakes and heartache. This strategy has been so effective with our children that I want to share it with you. Let’s pray,

Father, please grant my children a passion for Your house.

He will.

Kristina was ready for church when I arrived home from work, exhausted, saturated with sweat, no makeup. Preparations for the following workday would keep me up until midnight. Walking through our ninth summer, I urged, “Sweetheart, I don’t see how we can possibly make it to church tonight. What if . . ..” As she gently displayed her disappointment, God spoke to my heart with very strong biblical words,

“Let the children come to me.

Don’t stop them!

For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to

those who are like these children.” Matt. 19:14 (NIV)

With no time to shower or change clothes, I grabbed the keys and we headed for the car. Thankfully, our church’s theme was “Come as you are, you’ll be loved” because you could probably smell me three pews away. At the time, I wondered if it would truly make a difference. But I chose to live by the seed God planted in my heart that afternoon, a seed that continues to bear much delightful fruit.

Kristina faced disapproval as a teenager when she chose to attend church over cheering at a Wednesday night basketball game, and to arrive at cheerleader camp a day late, after church on Sunday. God honored her decision. She was the only girl on her squad who made “All Star.”

Another prayer,

Father, please grant my children a passion for prayer.

He will.

What a blessing when Kristina, her husband and their four young children walk into church at 6:00 a.m. during our 21 Days of Prayer. When unable to attend, they pray at home.

Recognizing the importance of worshiping together as a family, when Kristina started college we drove over an hour to attend the church she became connected with. This was an answer to the prayer,

Father, please put our family in the center of a global move of God.

He did.

Because these prayers have been so effective with both daughters, there are many problems we’ve never had to face.

A single day in your courts

is better than a thousand anywhere else!

Psalm 84:10 NLT

I have no greater joy than to hear

that my children walk in truth.

3 John 1:4 KJV
