Do You Want To Build A Snowman?

Do You Want To Build A Snowman?

Who doesn’t love the lyrics from the movie Frozen?

I’ll admit, I know every word of every song. But before you judge me, know that I have three children under the age of eight. As a dad, it is my job to be engaged with their world and their culture. Plus who doesn’t love Disney?

I like living in Ohio. We get snow all winter long. I love having a state with varied seasons. Each winter we get enough snow to bundle up and play in. We can go skiing, tubing, sledding, make snow angels, or build snowmen.

I love playing in the snow, especially with my children. It is a great time to engage with my children and play along with them. I get to hear them laugh and make them cry—when I hit them too hard with a snowball in the face. Yes, I am that guy. Playing in the snow always brings tears of some sort, but it also brings snowmen.

Playing in the snow with a child affords a parent an awesome opportunity to talk about Jesus. Isaiah 64:8 speaks about how Jesus is the potter and we are the clay. We are the works of his hands, just like snowmen.

The next chance you have to play in the snow with your children, build a snowman together. Or you can be like my family, and build a snow family.

Utilize this time together as a moldable moment. Be intentional about connecting something so fun and exciting back to Christ. Share with your children how God molds us like we mold the snowman. Share how He created each of us as unique individuals and uses our life experiences to further shape who we become.

If you’re like me, you’ll have this conversation over a hot cup of cocoa right before you cuddle up in front of the fireplace and watch Frozen as a family.
