A Passion for God

Posted by on Nov 12, 2018 in A LASTING FAITH, Blog, Prayers and Promises | 0 comments

It’s something I pray for every day, and it’s highly effective. Father, please give my family a passion for You, Your Word, Your wisdom, Your will, the people of Your world, for prayer, and for holiness. We can find inspirational reminders all around us. Let’s get started. HEARTS I have a few decorative hearts in our home. Seeing them reminds me to ask God to give us a love for Him that consumes all other passions, attaining the highest treasure of life, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. Matthew 22:37 NKJV BIBLES While opening our Bibles each morning, let this activity remind us to pray that our loved ones are drawn into God’s Words as they awaken. Let’s ask God to speak to them specifically in their...

Taking Prayer to School

Posted by on Aug 27, 2018 in A LASTING FAITH, Blog, Prayers and Promises | 0 comments

It’s a time of preparation, purchasing new clothing and school supplies. But it’s also a time of preparation for life. And since God told us to bring up a child in the way he or she should go, praying and teaching them to pray will equip them for success in anything they undertake. So let’s do this. I’ll provide a list of items and associations, so that when we purchase or use these, we’re reminded to pray specific prayers that will change our families and change the world. PENS, PENCILS, PAPER Father, I want You to write the story of my children’s lives. ERASERS Please erase from their hearts and memories any words that I have ever spoken that hurt them. Erase all our sins, so that they are no longer remembered. RULER I pray that my children and...

Prayers for 18 Ages and 18 Stages

Let’s back up and begin with pregnancy. Frame an ultrasound photo and attach a piece of yarn, a reminder that this child is being knit together in the womb by God Himself (Ps. 139). Use it as a reminder to pray for wisdom to inspire this child excel and accomplish all God desires of him or her.   One Diapers inspire prayer for physical, emotional, and spiritual purity in this present darkness. And at feeding times, As newborn babies seemingly ceaselessly cry out for milk, so may my family long for You, God (1 Peter 2:2). Two While tying shoelaces and teaching them to walk, May every step move them deeper into Your presence and will. Three While teaching them to talk, Please give this child Your Words to pray and Your words to speak to the nations. Four...

Raising a Generation Dangerous in Prayer

Posted by on Jun 13, 2018 in A LASTING FAITH, Blog, Prayers and Promises | 0 comments

What do you think of when you hear a train whistle? Did you know that it’s a thrilling sound that can change the world? When we moved our teen and toddler from Houston to a very small country community, the house was in ghastly condition, requiring extensive cleaning and repairs. With our belongings held hostage by boxes, we worked hard to establish basic creature comforts such as toilets that flushed, running water, and other critical needs. The girls stayed with my parents while we ripped out flea-infested carpet and stripped and painted surfaces throughout the house, working to the point of exhaustion every day. Without the clutter of city lights, the moon and stars were breathtaking. But the nighttime noises! I thought I’d exchange the frantic sounds of the city for soft breezes that moved the trees to whisper...

Beware of Great Lies

Posted by on May 17, 2018 in A LASTING FAITH, Blog, Prayers and Promises | 0 comments

It’s so important that we guard our children’s hearts, minds, and lives at all times, in all circumstances, and at every stage of life. Being active in prayer and interacting relationally when children are young can save a mountain of broken hearts and relationships; but even when broken, God is able to make all things new. And whether you have obedient children who respect authority, or are faced with children walking in rebellion or making poor choices, our response is the same. We win spiritual battles by using spiritual strategies. Our Bibles are our primary weapon for responding to every deception, distraction, and assault of satan. So let’s use it. When opening my Bible, I plead that my family will have a passion for God’s Word. They do. But there’s more, Father, please grant them discernment in the world....

Beware of Great Lies

Posted by on Feb 2, 2018 in A LASTING FAITH, Blog, Prayers and Promises | 0 comments

Beware of the great lies, “boys will be boys” and “girls will be girls.” Or “They’re teenagers (or adults) and so I no longer have influence in their lives.” Eli’s refusal to restrain his sons had a devastating impact on his family and the nation of Israel (1 Sam. 3). It helps to define parenting goals. Some parents live to launch their children from the family nest. Others want their children to be successful by the world’s standards in education and profession. But shouldn’t our ultimate goal be to strive for God’s approval for a job well done in raising His children to love, honor, and serve Him and others? How do we achieve this? The Holy Spirit must govern our lives and theirs. So let’s pray about it, Father, Please help us to pray life-defining prayers over the...
