Beyond Our 18 Summers

Beyond Our 18 Summers

Beyond our 18 summers is a lifetime of holidays, trials, and special events with the spouse each child selects, and with their families. Because prayer defines destinies, whether your children are six or sixteen, it’s never too soon to begin praying for their husband or wife, for our God is willing and able to do exceedingly abundantly more than we could ever ask or think. (Eph. 3:20)

In our sixth summer together, my daughter, Kristina, walked into the living room wearing my wedding dress, which loosely draped her tiny body. It seemed as though her wedding day was an eternity away. But it wasn’t…

I remember the night I met him—so handsome in his white shirt with his initials monogramed on the pocket. As Matthew extended his hand to introduce himself, the Holy Spirit spoke to my heart—This is your future son-in-law. Even his name meant “gift from God.”

It would be almost a year before he proposed, but when he did, there was no doubt that he and his family greatly surpassed every expectation to every prayer for our oldest daughter. He had carefully guarded her spiritually, physically, and emotionally.

Now one of life’s greatest joys is watching my son-in-love place his hand on my grandchildren’s heads for prayer each morning before he leaves for work. At birthday parties, when it’s time for cake, he pronounces a blessing over them in the presence of all their guests.

God delights in our petitions:

∗ That our children and their future spouses have a dynamic relationship with Christ, cherishing Him above all else.

∗ That they enjoy God-honoring mentors and friends to guide them and make them strong.

∗ Make your list and share them with us in the comment section below.

Father,

we long for You to guide all hearts,

orchestrating every detail of our family’s destiny.

We lift up each child’s husband or wife to You

and ask for spiritual and physical protection.

Help them to keep their eyes on You, not distracted by individuals or activities

that will tarnish their marriage relationship in any way.

Each day of our lives may we all be faithfully wedded to Your will.

The LORD says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life.

I will advise you and watch over you.

Psalm 32:8 NLT

The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

James 5:16 KJV
