An Advent Strategy that Will Change Your Family

An Advent Strategy that Will Change Your Family

Is anyone interested in an Advent strategy for powerful family time? Connect your children with God through prayer—in a way that will touch their hearts and change the world.

Using inexpensive Christmas ornaments, assign a Scriptural prayer to each. Wrap them in bags with a pretty ribbon – one for each day of Advent, and hang them on the tree or put them in a pretty box, basket, or gift bag. Each day, gather the family and open one.

Here are some of our lessons:

REINDEER: Whenever we see a deer or reindeer, we can pray,

As a deer pants for water, may our souls

desperately long for You, O God.

Psalm 42:1

ANGEL: The Bible says that angels rejoice when people surrender their lives to Christ.

May our prayers and activities to reach the lost

result in powerful explosions of joy throughout Heaven.

BOW: The Bible says that whatever we bind on earth will be bound in Heaven and whatever we loose on earth will be loosed in Heaven (Matt. 18:18). We can also pray,

Father, please bind us to Your sacred and sovereign will.

CHRISTMAS TREES: They’re beautiful, but when we see any tree, let’s remember,

The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life,

and he who wins souls is wise.

Proverbs 11:30

GIFT: God gives His children special gifts for serving Him by serving others.

May we never neglect the gifts that are within us (1 Tim. 4:14).

As a parent, help me to fan into flames the spiritual gifts

You have given my children – Your children.

2 Tim. 1:6

NATIVITY ORNAMENTS: These remind us that God chose a young girl to deliver His Son into the world so that He might deliver us. And Joseph was consistently obedient when God gave him any instruction.

Father, may our sons and daughters

be so holy and wholly devoted to You

that they capture Your attention,

and in quiet, gentle ways

significantly mark the moments of HIStory.

SANTA: Many children love to climb on Santa’s knee and share what they want for Christmas. But a Santa ornament can remind us that every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord (Rom. 14:11). And may our children desire to be a gift to the world – sharing the Light and Love of Christ.

As snow melts, so our lives are but a vapor . . .
May we be mindful of our legacy, spending our lives

to make a difference that will change individuals and nations.
