Don't forget to make some memories!

Words That Matter

Words That Matter

Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. _Ephesians 4:29 ESV

One of my favorite things to incorporate into my decorating plans are inspirational words stamped on boards, tea towels, magnets and the like. Well-used words have the power to inspire, challenge, and encourage people.  And because people matter to me, I want to use words well.

Children remember our words for years after we have spoken them. I’m guessing most of you can remember a time when someone didn’t use their words well. The impact still lingers in the deep recesses of your heart, still, today? I understand, friend.  I have a few painful memories tucked away, too.

But I love that we are given a clean slate, a fresh start, at the beginning of each new day. And I love that we can choose to use words that matter – words that change the world around us by bringing cheer.

When guests come to my home i want them to feel loved and valued. To enter into a space that feels much nicer than the cold, sometimes cruel, world outside – where words are used carelessly. A space where people matter.

During the next 30 days, I want to challenge you to have fun creating an environment where words matter, an environment where everyone speaks life-giving words that matter, make a difference for the better.

30-Day Words That Matter Challenge:

(No criticism is allowed. Your children will learn to do the same.)

As a fun activity, why not have a stack of colorful index cards on the dinner table tonight? Talk with your family about the importance and power of our words. Tell them you want to challenge them to a 30-day period of using words that matter. Write words on the index cards that speak life into others (let your family help you choose the words) and tell your children to display the cards around the house to help them remember their 30-day commitment to using only words that matter. Words that encourage, lift others up, and show kindness.

Have fun focusing on words that matter in the lives of the people that matter!
