Life Is a Prayer List
The sights, smells, sounds, and activities of life can guide us in powerful, unceasing prayer for our families and for families throughout the world. Let me explain.
When I open my Bible each morning, I pray,
please grant my children, family, and friends
(that includes you if you’re reading this article!)
a relentless passion for Your Word.
Please release Your spirit of wisdom and revelation
so that they comprehend great and wonderful things
that will inspire them to pursue You more diligently.
When preparing a cup of coffee or tea,
may those I love
and people who love You throughout the world
be relentlessly “hot” in their deeds and actions.
May You and the watching world never perceive our hearts as lukewarm.
When preparing meals or saying the blessing,
may my family’s favorite food be to do Your Will!
When putting on shoes,
May every step we take
(my family, friends, church, people throughout the world)
lead us deeper into Your presence, love,
and will for our lives.
When tying shoelaces,
please bind us to Your sovereign and sacred will,
whatever that looks like.
When grabbing the keys to the house or car, I’m reminded that we have authority. Jesus said that He would give us the keys to the kingdom so that whatever we bind on earth will be bound in heaven and whatever we loose on earth will be loosed in heaven (Matthew 16 and 18). But in context, Jesus gives us a powerful lesson on forgiveness that can make our homes run more smoothly.
So may we all forgive as Jesus forgave us
so that we may effectively exercise this authority.
When looking out a window,
Father, please use our prayers and activities
to shatter the 10-40 window,
that area of the world where so many people live
who have never heard your sacred Name.
Use us. Send us. Spend us for Your honor and glory and praise.
Teach these prayers to your children, and create your own. Share them with one another and share them with us. We would love to hear your family’s prayer strategies!
