Don't forget to make some memories!

Icy Fun Hot Summertime!

Icy Fun Hot Summertime!

That’s how God’s Word vaults across the skies from sunrise to sunset, Melting ice, scorching deserts, warming hearts to faith. ~ Psalm 19:6 MSG

Cold ice goes well on hot summer days, especially when incorporated in fun and games. It’s inexpensive fun that can be used to teach about science. Remember that ice can be as hard as a rock, so set some safety rules (like no throwing ice cubes at people).

Ice Fun

  • Build with ice cubes. If needed, shake a little salt on cubes to act as glue. Try freezing water in larger molds, too. Let them sit in the sun to melt around the outside edges and then slip them out.
  • Play icy games. Ice cubes are small enough to hold and pass or slippery enough to slide. That makes them naturally fun when used as objects in games. Try ice hockey, tossing ice at targets, musical ice cubes (pass the ice until music stops), relay races carrying ice cubes, and add ice cubes into the pool and try to move them by making waves.
  • Make frozen ice pops. Add flavors or fruit to the water before freezing. Enjoy the treats.
  • Try ice science exploration. Place ice cubes on different surfaces and locations and time how long it takes the cubes to melt. It helps children understand how different colors and materials can absorb heat. Freeze a full container of water with no lid and see how the water expands and overflows.
  • Check the Bible. Read Job 6:16, 28:29, 37:9-10, 38:30, Psalm 19:6 and chat about how God understands properties of water and ice. He made them!

Pure Fun!

Pure water is important. So is a pure heart.

In Psalm 119:9 the question is asked, “How can a young man keep his way pure?” To discover answers the Bible gives in Psalm 119:9-10, decode this puzzle.
