Power in a Plastic Egg

Posted by on Apr 14, 2017 in A LASTING FAITH, Blog, Prayers and Promises | 0 comments

Break open your words, let light shine out… Psalm 119:130 MSG Just as many will hide Easter eggs for children this year, the Bible speaks of hiding God’s Word in our hearts (Ps. 119:11). So this year I’m sending my children and spiritual children on a treasure hunt—treasure that will change their lives, and as it is properly applied, will change the lives of countless others. Want to join me? You’ll need a Bible, plastic eggs, small candies, colorful paper, and a pen. You can use your favorite Scriptures or download the document on my website. Instead of traditional Easter references, I’m using personal application verses that will help them focus on how they can live for Christ and influence others. For younger children, print or write out a complete verse. For older children, write the reference and have...

Life Is a Prayer List

Posted by on Mar 2, 2017 in A LASTING FAITH, Blog, Prayers and Promises | 0 comments

The sights, smells, sounds, and activities of life can guide us in powerful, unceasing prayer for our families and for families throughout the world. Let me explain. When I open my Bible each morning, I pray, Father, please grant my children, family, and friends (that includes you if you’re reading this article!) a relentless passion for Your Word. Please release Your spirit of wisdom and revelation so that they comprehend great and wonderful things that will inspire them to pursue You more diligently. When preparing a cup of coffee or tea, Father, may those I love and people who love You throughout the world be relentlessly “hot” in their deeds and actions. May You and the watching world never perceive our hearts as lukewarm. When preparing meals or saying the blessing, O God, may my family’s favorite food be...

Developing Prayer Strategies with Children

Posted by on Feb 2, 2017 in A LASTING FAITH, Blog, Prayers and Promises | 0 comments

The kids were grabbing their backpacks, heading out the door for school when Papa, their grandfather, called for prayer. His truck had broken down in the middle of nowhere, hours from his destination. It just stopped. Various lights flashing, it refused to crank. Their mother Kristina slowed the kids down to share the urgent need. They prayed while pressing on to get to school on time. Down the road from their home, a man in a suit stood near his car, the emergency lights flashing. On this occasion, Kristina felt safe rolling the window down to see if he needed anything. He said that a tow truck was on the way. She then asked the kids what they could learn from this. Their response, “We can pray for everyone whose car or truck has broken down.” Now that’s a...

Faith for an Angel

Hearts were settled. It was never going to happen! Then as Kristina tossed a newspaper into the recycle bin, her daughter Emma Kathryn said, “Don’t throw that away, Mommy. We’re going to need it for the cat.” “The cat? We don’t have a cat!” Kristina responded. Emma Kathryn grinned knowingly, “The cat we’re going to get for Christmas!” Consumed with childlike faith, she talked about kittens with such enthusiasm that what had once been impossible, moved and melted hearts so that the quest for a kitty ensued. You have to be careful when selecting a pet for a family with four young children. When Matthew and Kristina didn’t find that special kitten locally, their search expanded, but with disappointing results. So, they prayed more earnestly. On the evening of December 23, a connection was made that would require a...

An Advent Strategy that Will Change Your Family

Posted by on Dec 7, 2016 in A LASTING FAITH, Blog, Prayers and Promises | 0 comments

Is anyone interested in an Advent strategy for powerful family time? Connect your children with God through prayer—in a way that will touch their hearts and change the world. Using inexpensive Christmas ornaments, assign a Scriptural prayer to each. Wrap them in bags with a pretty ribbon – one for each day of Advent, and hang them on the tree or put them in a pretty box, basket, or gift bag. Each day, gather the family and open one. Here are some of our lessons: REINDEER: Whenever we see a deer or reindeer, we can pray, As a deer pants for water, may our souls desperately long for You, O God. Psalm 42:1 ANGEL: The Bible says that angels rejoice when people surrender their lives to Christ. May our prayers and activities to reach the lost result in powerful...

Chill in the Air – Fire in Our Hearts

Posted by on Nov 4, 2016 in A LASTING FAITH, Blog, Prayers and Promises | 0 comments

As the weather chills and the leaves turn beautiful colors, let’s use the sights, sounds, and smells of autumn to teach our children to pray. ACORNS The potential within a single tiny acorn is staggering. It may give birth to a ginormous oak, as well as the acorns it produces year after year after year. Each of those acorns has the capacity to produce a tree filled with more acorns year after year after year. May our children and their children be as mighty oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord, producing seed and spiritual fruit that cannot be humanly measured (Is. 61:3). CHILLING TEMPERATURES As temperatures cool, may we be inspired to pray, May our hearts become hot, fiercely devoted to King Jesus and the expansion of His Kingdom (Rev. 3:14-16). CINNAMON May our prayers be set before You as...
