Prayer that Transforms Hearts to Transform the World

If you have difficulty motivating your children to assume responsibility, this article is for you. Cruel remarks from a best friend had crushed Melissa Ann’s heart. Hurting with her, we wanted to do something special to help heal the pain. We began considering her desire for a horse that had started when we moved to the country. Because horses require a lot of daily care, we suggested she get up at 5:00 every morning for six weeks to read books about horses (for a minimum of two hours). The books had to be read on the patio table – rain or shine and in extraordinarily cold or hot temperatures because these conditions would be part of the experience of caring for a horse. So what did she do? Without going into details about that experience, six weeks later, we...

Prayer Walking the Zoo

Posted by on Jun 8, 2017 in A LASTING FAITH, Blog, Prayers and Promises | 1 comment

We can change our families and change the world simply by teaching our children to associate prayer with animals while visiting the zoo. I’ll share a few examples to get you started. LIONS: They’re my favorite because of two great Bible stories we can share with our kids. David had the courage to stand against Goliath because he remembered protecting his sheep from a lion and a bear (1 Sam. 17). And God protected Daniel when he was forced into a lions’ den because he refused to stop praying to Him. They also remind us that satan, our enemy, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour (1 Pet. 5:8-9), but that the righteous are bold as lions (Prov. 28:1). Pause at the cages and discuss these stories and how lions can be a visual reminder...

Overwhelmed by the Overload

Posted by on May 2, 2017 in A LASTING FAITH, Blog, Prayers and Promises | 0 comments

Exhausted mothers are huddling together, sharing the tension that’s causing their families to snap. Parents and children are overwhelmed by the overload of activities as they rush from school, through homework, to other activities such as soccer and ballet. They’re racing to the finish line, eager to get through this season of the year. But it’s also a once-in-a-lifetime season of life. So relax. Take a deep breath. Pray with me, Thy will be done. Jesus taught us to pray this way, and it’s crucial that we teach our children as well. But for our family to succeed before God and man, let’s put first things first. In the same message from Matthew 6 where Christ gave us The Lord’s Prayer, He told us, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things...

Power in a Plastic Egg

Posted by on Apr 14, 2017 in A LASTING FAITH, Blog, Prayers and Promises | 0 comments

Break open your words, let light shine out… Psalm 119:130 MSG Just as many will hide Easter eggs for children this year, the Bible speaks of hiding God’s Word in our hearts (Ps. 119:11). So this year I’m sending my children and spiritual children on a treasure hunt—treasure that will change their lives, and as it is properly applied, will change the lives of countless others. Want to join me? You’ll need a Bible, plastic eggs, small candies, colorful paper, and a pen. You can use your favorite Scriptures or download the document on my website. Instead of traditional Easter references, I’m using personal application verses that will help them focus on how they can live for Christ and influence others. For younger children, print or write out a complete verse. For older children, write the reference and have...

Life Is a Prayer List

Posted by on Mar 2, 2017 in A LASTING FAITH, Blog, Prayers and Promises | 0 comments

The sights, smells, sounds, and activities of life can guide us in powerful, unceasing prayer for our families and for families throughout the world. Let me explain. When I open my Bible each morning, I pray, Father, please grant my children, family, and friends (that includes you if you’re reading this article!) a relentless passion for Your Word. Please release Your spirit of wisdom and revelation so that they comprehend great and wonderful things that will inspire them to pursue You more diligently. When preparing a cup of coffee or tea, Father, may those I love and people who love You throughout the world be relentlessly “hot” in their deeds and actions. May You and the watching world never perceive our hearts as lukewarm. When preparing meals or saying the blessing, O God, may my family’s favorite food be...

Developing Prayer Strategies with Children

Posted by on Feb 2, 2017 in A LASTING FAITH, Blog, Prayers and Promises | 0 comments

The kids were grabbing their backpacks, heading out the door for school when Papa, their grandfather, called for prayer. His truck had broken down in the middle of nowhere, hours from his destination. It just stopped. Various lights flashing, it refused to crank. Their mother Kristina slowed the kids down to share the urgent need. They prayed while pressing on to get to school on time. Down the road from their home, a man in a suit stood near his car, the emergency lights flashing. On this occasion, Kristina felt safe rolling the window down to see if he needed anything. He said that a tow truck was on the way. She then asked the kids what they could learn from this. Their response, “We can pray for everyone whose car or truck has broken down.” Now that’s a...
