No Updates Needed

Posted by on Jan 18, 2016 in A LASTING FAITH, Blog, Finding God’s Fingerprints | 0 comments

Materials: outdated phone or other electronic device Scripture Reference: Genesis 8:22 So, who loves updates? I am constantly receiving prompts for updating my cell phone, but I repeatedly decline, because in the past, I have experienced more challenges with the software after the update was completed. I prefer to use my phone the way it was purchased. The updates, no doubt, are purposed for my benefit, but it’s a challenge for me to accept it when I only experience increased difficulty. The proposition for updating is not exclusive to electronic equipment.  I am guilty of looking around my house and making lists of projects for remodeling, surfing the internet for fashion changes to improve my wardrobe, and new workout tips to gain better results in less time. So much of this stuff is just occupying precious time. Americans are...

A Lesson from the Beehive – Part 2

Posted by on Nov 9, 2015 in A LASTING FAITH, Blog, Finding God’s Fingerprints | 0 comments

Materials Needed: Empty Beehive or picture of one Scripture Reference: 2 Timothy 2:22 Have you ever had a project that you began for the purpose of making extra income for your family and/or to provide an opportunity to teach work ethics and responsibility to your children—but it seemingly only caused loss of money? That has been the case for our small farm recently. We lost a calf and a hive of bees in a twenty-four-hour period. My husband was downhearted over the situation and completely frustrated, and it seemed nothing good could come of these bad circumstances. We lost money and our children were broken-hearted, but God reminded me of a lesson that is good for all ages. Farming is certainly a learning process and we are new to bee-keeping. We began research to determine what caused our hive...

Learning from the Bees – Part 1

Posted by on Oct 8, 2015 in A LASTING FAITH, Blog, Finding God’s Fingerprints | 0 comments

Scripture Reference: Proverbs 31:37 Materials Needed: Beehive or Ant village Through the last year, my husband and I have been learning about bees. After watching them and reading information about them, I am challenged by the work ethic of the honey bee. In the spring and summer, honey bees spend their days working to build the hive and produce honey. Each day they get what is needed for building and producing. They know if they slack off, that fall and winter is coming, and once summer is over, there will be no chance to get the materials needed for their processes. If one watches a working hive, it appears the bees are just buzzing around, but the work they are completing is well organized and serves a purpose for the greater good of the hive. In the fall and winter,...

Sweet Sleep During Unsettled Times

Materials Needed: A pillow Scripture Reference: Psalm 4:8 – I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety. Are your children sometimes scared by what is going on in the world? Are you?  How do you calm your children’s fears when you can’t control the circumstances? How do you answer their questions? The world we live in is changing rapidly and we are touched by violence in some way almost daily. Technology has opened the door for news media and social networking to reveal what is going on around the world.  Sometimes if we are not careful, the only thing we think about is what we have heard from these sources and fear gains a foothold, even in the lives of faithful followers of God. Moms and dads, I...

How’s Your Coloring?

Posted by on Jul 7, 2015 in A LASTING FAITH, Blog, Finding God’s Fingerprints | 2 comments

Materials needed: You’ll need a full box of crayons all the same color with one crayon of a contrasting color. Scripture Reference:  Romans 12:2 In the last few weeks, I was in a group in which I felt terribly out of place. The people were nice, friendly and excellent workers for the task for which we were together. I just realized my thoughts and focus were totally opposite, even though we were approximately the same age and in the same stages of life. After this experience, God really dealt with my heart about being His child living in this wicked and sinful world. I was reminded and comforted that He that is living in me is greater than he that is in the world. (1 John 4:4) Even though we are surrounded by sin and trouble, God has us...

We are Safe!

Materials Needed: Lock (dead bolt would work) Scripture Reference: Proverbs 3:24 In our church, we have a devotional time prior to Sunday school. My dad leads the devotion during this time. He recently told a story about his great aunt who was a widow. She lived near him and he stayed with her very often. He said every night they would go to the door and she would lock the three dead bolts and then say her prayers. She would say to him “You see, if we do our part, God does His.” My dad used this story to tell us God does His part with or without our participation because He is a great God who loves His children. I have been thinking about this and I am so thankful for God’s great ability to protect me both...
